The danger of the Russian invasion of Ukraine taking on uncontrollable dimensions and NATO’s responsibility not to spread the conflict to more countries, stressed today the head of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg, according to Reuters.
In particular, speaking with Latvian President Eglis Levic, Stoltenberg said that the situation we now see in Ukraine was “horrible” and that the humanitarian impact “of Putin’s attack was catastrophic”.
According to him, there are well-founded reports that Russia is targeting civilians in Ukraine.
At the same time, the NATO Secretary General stressed that the situation could get out of control and in this context stressed that “we have a responsibility to ensure that the conflict does not escalate and does not extend beyond Ukraine.”
As Mr. Stoltenberg characteristically added, “we will protect and defend every inch of all allied territories.”
