Jens Stoltenberg’s term as NATO Secretary General has been extended until September 30, 2023, for another year due to the war in Ukraine, as he officially announced via Twitter, accepting the proposal of the leaders of the 30 member countries of the Alliance. .

“As we face the greatest security crisis of our generation, we stand united to keep the Alliance strong and our peoples safe,” Stoltenberg said.

It is noted that the term of the Norwegian politician normally ends on October 1 and he was to take over the position of governor of the central bank of his homeland, Norway, until the end of 2022.

It is recalled that Jens Stoltenberg, who studied economics, was the leader of Norway’s center-left Labor Party and served as the country’s prime minister for two terms, in 2000-01 and 2005-13, before taking over as head of NATO a year later. He has also served as Minister of Finance and Minister of Energy in Norway.

The Norwegian government last month appointed Ida Wolden Bache to head the country’s central bank for a nine-month term, as Stoltenberg was scheduled to take office by the end of the year.
