Donald Trump’s government has ordered US companies that provide semiconductor design software to stop offering their services to Chinese companies. According to a Financial Times report, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) companies, including CADENCE (CDNS.O), Synopsys (SNPS.O) and Siemens Eda, were informed by the US Department of Commerce that they should stop providing their technology in China, the same report. Cadence’s shares fell 10%, while Synopsys fell 11% after the news was published. The Bureau of Industry and Security was the one that issued the mandate to companies, according to sources cited by the newspaper. Cadence declined to comment, while Synopsys and Siemens Eda did not respond immediately to requests for a statement.
