Strait Brands will track alcoholic beverages using the Cardano blockchain

Australian spirits company Strait Brands will use the Cardano blockchain to track supply chains. The goal of a blockchain-based solution is to prevent the spread of counterfeit products.

About it
reported the research company Input Output (IOHK), behind the development of the Cardano project. Strait Brands plans to ship 4 million bottles of luxury spirits by the end of next year. As part of its partnership with Cardano, the company will use the Atala SCAN platform developed by IOHK.

According to the developers, the blockchain-based solution will securely record and store product data, verify the origin of ingredients and increase the transparency of the supply chain. Consumers only need to scan a code on the label to access the information. Strait Brands founder Philip Ridyard hopes the partnership with IOHK will help prevent the spread of counterfeit products.

“Our company goes international. Given the challenges that liquor manufacturers typically face, we have made the decision to use blockchain technology. It will ensure the security of our products and help build the trust of our customers, who can independently verify all the data, ”said Ridyard.

IOHK said the SCAN solution is part of the Input Output Atala system, which is already being used in an education project by the Ethiopian government. The decentralized solution is used to instantly identify about five million students and check school progress.

One of the major problems in the alcohol industry is the emergence of counterfeit, diluted or mislabeled products on the market. Therefore, many companies believe that blockchain will help find a way out of the situation. For example, last year, the University of Glasgow’s University of Scotland Environmental Research Center (SUERC) began using the Everledger blockchain to prevent counterfeiting of Scotch whiskey. In addition, in the same year, IBM and eProvenance introduced the blockchain-based VinAssure platform for product compliance verification.
