Stranger Things 4: From Lithuania to New Mexico, check out the new scenarios of the series

Nearly three years after the end of Season 3 leaves fans even more excited for a new chapter, “Stranger Things back to the catalog Netflix with never-before-seen episodes fourth season .

Launched on the streaming service on Friday, May 27, the plot resumes the actions of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and your friends against monsters from the inverted world during the 1980s – wait for soundtracks packed by Kate Bush and clothes with various prints and colors.

However, for the first time, the narrative expands and also takes place outside of Hawkins a fictional town in the state of Indiana that, since the first season, has been the setting for the supernatural events witnessed by the characters.

This time, several cores are divided on the small screen: there is the California sunny side of the Byers family, a Russia where Hopper (David Harbour) tries to survive and escape, in addition to, of course, a Hawkins once again dominated by forces from another dimension.

However, the interesting thing is that the production did not even set foot in Russia or even in California to film the new scenes. In real life, other countries and cities were used as a backdrop to bring these places to life in fiction.

Next, check out where the fourth season of “Stranger Things” was filmed and learn a little more about each of the destinations:

Lithuania as Russia

The country in northeast Europe, of about 2.7 million inhabitants, was the place chosen to play Russia in the series. As most fans know, Hopper (David Harbour) survives the lab explosion at the end of season three and ends up in a snowy Russian prison.

For the wintry landscape, the “Stranger Things” crew landed on the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius where they filmed most of Hopper’s scenes in a newly vacated prison downtown.

christened of Lukiškės Prison the place was built in 1904 and received prisoners until 2019. In interview with Condé Nast Travelerseries production designer Chris Trujillo noted that the architecture of the place is special.

“It’s a former tsarist prison and its past is quite dark, but as an example of architecture it’s amazing and inspired us right away. There are all these multi-story cell blocks that were so amazing they made it into the series,” she said.

According to the Vilnius government, the prison has been transformed into an artistic venue and is open to the general public. The new version of the building houses 250 creators and artists. Its inner courtyard is the stage for concerts and parties and there is also a tour of the premises that can be done day or night, between €15 and €20.

Recently, one of the cells was decorated with the theme of the series and new on-site guided tours have been launched in celebration of the season four premiere.

The series production designer also revealed to the publication that the team spent a lot of time in the forests and fields of the small country, and highlighted that the natural light there is different from the light in the United States. Small towns from the Soviet era also served as inspiration, as their appearance is peculiar and reminiscent of ancient Russia.

New Mexico like California

With the end of the third season, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) moves from Hawkins to California with her two children and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Another fictional city appears in the series, this time Californian Lenora Hills.

However, the filming did not actually take place in California, but in New Mexico, more specifically in the city of albuquerque the largest in the state.

The production of “Stranger Things” wanted to accurately recreate Southern California and the Nevada desert, and according to production designer Chris Trujillo, the foothills outside of Albuquerque look a lot like parts of Southern California.

Other more specific locations in Albuquerque were also used as scenarios for the season: this is the case of Eldorado High School, which served as Lenora Hills High School in the plot, and the Roller King skating rink, a location that served in the story like Rink-O-Mania, a fun point for the characters.

Atlanta as Hawkins

The state capital of Georgia and some neighboring cities have been used since the first season as replacements for the fictional Hawkings. And with the fourth season it was no different: several paparazzi photos in atlanta appeared on the internet during the last year, when the last filming of the new episodes was still happening.

The city has about 500 thousand inhabitants and its airport carries the title of the busiest in the world.

Nearby, one of the most important locations for the new season is the Creel House , a haunted house that plays a crucial role in the series and belonged to Victor Creel (Robert Englund) in the fiction. The house exists in real life and is actually located in Rome, a city over 100 km from the capital Atlanta.

Old Victorian house, it was built in 1882 and is called Claremont House having served as an inn for 16 years, until 2019. According to internet advertisements, after the inn stopped operating, the house was selling for around $500,000.

Another place that makes a cameo in the new season – and which has previously appeared in the plot – is the Hawkins National Lab . The scenes were filmed in Emory University’s Briarcliff campus .

According to university websitethe building was constructed in the 1960s and was used as a mental health treatment center before being acquired by Emory in the 1990s. Today, it is an empty five-story building.
