It has nothing to do with my penchant for 80s metal, nor my passion for guitar solos, just Eddie’s ability to be an exceptional person and out of the ordinary in his apparent simplicity.
We discover it slowly, episode after episode, until we totally change the opinion we had of him after the first episodes: a nerd, unable to take on his own responsibilitiesreluctant to grow up and only interested in fantasy.
Instead, as usual, appearances are deceiving and we understand that we are faced with a completely isolated boy, abandoned by his dearest affections and reluctant to show the true part of himself in order not to be hurt and disappointed.
Okay, there are a lot of characters like that but what makes Eddie stand out from the others is his sensitivity. Do you remember the first meeting with Chrissy? He manages to make her laugh, makes her feel heard and, for a few minutes, makes her forget the danger that hangs over her.

However, the thing I have thought about the most while watching Eddie is how the perception that others have of you makes you believe that you are really a certain type of person.. In fact, while hiding from the police and the inhabitants of Hawkins, despite continuing to plead innocent, he knows that no one will believe him, not only because what happened is unbelievable, but also because he is perceived in a certain way and not. can and will not do anything to change it.
And it is precisely on this aspect that we should focus, leaving aside Eleven, the Upside-down, Max and Vecna ​​for a few minutes. How much can the judgment of others come to weigh on us? How much can it affect us, making us forget who we are?
In many cases, like Eddie, a lot, to the point that we don’t think we are capable of doing something, we don’t feel up to the situation and we believe that others are better than us. It is a perverse mechanism in which we often fall and get bogged down, like in quicksand.

I don’t know about you, but for me, watching Eddie and his behavior was a bit like looking in the mirror. By starting to empathize with him, I understood myself a little more. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one to gain some more awareness after watching the episodes.
Eddie, you are gone, but I wish a Hopper-style resurrection in the future: we absolutely cannot lose a character like you in Stranger Things and in life!
