You may have seen someone you know sharing data about a physical activity – whether it’s running, cycling, swimming or something else – on social media and wondered which app it was. The platform responsible for reading data about more than 40 sports is Strava .
Created in 2009, the app only arrived in Brazil a decade later, in 2019, but currently has more than 18 million users, second only to the United States, the founders’ country of origin, in number of accounts.
Second Rosana Fortes Strava’s Country Lead in Brazil, the platform has been growing in recent years, but especially in 2024. By August, the app had already gained more than 5 million new users.
But after all, what are Strava’s features?
- Activity logs
- Route records
- Performance analysis
- Performance comparison
- Itinerary planning
- Heat maps
Furthermore, the platform is also used as a social network, creating a sports community where users can share activities and follow those of their friends, with options for interactions between profiles.
The Brazilian on Strava
According to data from the 2023 Year in Sport, released by Strava earlier this year, the sports most registered by Brazilians on the app were: cycling, walking and running. However, Rosana believes that running should lead this year, due to the boom in the sport in recent months.
“I believe that this year, running could be the most popular sport among Brazilians, as it has become a craze, especially among the younger generations. According to data from 2023, in Brazil, Generation Z recorded the fastest runs, and millennials had the fastest pedal strokes,” he said.
