Strong footprint with new Mytilineos construction projects

By Eleni Bota

Mytilineos was named temporary contractor for the Chalkida and Psachna bypass project, with a discount of 7.61%, with an initial budget of 125 million euros, further strengthening the Group’s Sustainable Development Projects sector.

Mytileneos prevailed over AVAX which offered a 7% discount and AKTOR which offered a 5.4% discount.

The construction of the project aims to improve the connection of Athens and Chalkida with northern Evia, to decongest the urban fabric of Chalkida, N. Artakis and Psachni, with the passing traffic being channeled to the new road and to give the traffic a single and safe road axis from Chalkida to the end of the Psachni Bypass.

A few days ago, the Group officially handed over to traffic, 12 years after the start of the first works on the Aktio-Ambrakia highway in 2010, the Amfilochia Bypass, 17 kilometers long. The ceremony was held in the presence of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Kostas Karamanlis, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Giorgos Karagiannis, the CEO of Mytilinaios, Evangelos Mytilinaios and the Regional Governor of Western Greece, Nektarios Farmakis.

The 17 km section of the Amfilochia Bypass cuts the driving time by approximately 20 minutes. The first section that was put into traffic was in 2019, it was the 14km long Aktio-Vonitsa, while the current section was put into operation 5 months earlier than the contractual obligation of the contractor.

With this delivery of the 48.5 kilometers of the Aktio-Ambrakia highway, a total of 31 kilometers will be operational. The last section where construction work continues is the Vonitsa-Drymos section and a small section in the Akti area, with the aim of being delivered this summer 2023.

The outstanding balance

By 2022, the Mytileneos group managed to increase its backlog of contracts by over 1 billion euros.

Already, the Mytilineos – AVAX scheme has emerged as the temporary contractor for the Thessaloniki Flyover road project, with a budget of 370 million euros.

Also, the consortium “MYTILINEOS SA – ROVER MARITIME SL – HDK SA” was selected as the contractor for the “6th Jetty, Expansion of Port Infrastructure” project of the ΟΛTH, with a budget of 150 million euros. This specific project places the Port of Thessaloniki on the world map of main lines and intercontinental combined transport, as it gives it the possibility to directly serve main line container ships (Ultra Large Container Vessels), with a capacity of up to 24,000 TEU.

Finally, Mytileneos in a joint venture with TERNA has been declared the underdog in the ERGOSE tender for the new Kiato-Patra railway line, in the Rododafni-Rio section (construction of railway stations and stops, infrastructure, electrification, signaling – remote control, ETCS, telecommunications and I /M facilities in the Panagopoula tunnel), with a budget of 175 million euros. The same consortium is also the underdog in the tender for the construction of an electric drive system and anti-noise sound curtains in the Kiato – Rododafni section, with a budget of 84 million euros.
