The messages for this summer season from the 14 regional airports of Fraport Greece and from Athens airport are strong.
According to the first information, June closed at the 14 regional airports of Fraport Greece with a 3% increase in passengers compared to 2019.
Correspondingly, the messages from the Athens airport are also optimistic, which presented, in June, a passenger drop of only 6% compared to June 2019.
The above performances take on added significance if one considers that markets from countries such as China, Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine are absent this year.
“Since the beginning of the year, despite the travel restrictions and the pandemic, the traffic has returned to 80% of the corresponding period of 2019 and this is also extremely important”, noted yesterday the Director of Communication and Marketing of Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, Ioanna Papadopoulou, in the framework of the Aviation Event conference.
It is noted that, according to data from the CAA for the period January – May, the total passenger traffic at Greek airports amounted to 16.3 million, marking a drop of 14%, compared to the corresponding period of 2019 (the recovery of traffic amounted to 86%).
In fact, May showed an increase in international passengers by 3.2% and a total increase in passengers by 1%.
However, as mentioned in the above conference, the rise in inflation raises concerns about how air traffic will develop in the last quarter of the year and will affect the travel and tourism industry in general.
