A cold front coming from the Atlantic Ocean and reaching the Southeast region this week could cause a hangover between Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, and the entire state of Rio de Janeiro. Waves can reach 3 meters high on Rio beaches between the mornings of Thursday (16) and Friday (17).
The alert was issued by the Brazilian Navy this Tuesday (14) and, according to the Rio de Janeiro Fire Department, the storm began at 6 am today (16) and should continue until 9 am on Saturday morning. (18).
Recommendations
The Fire Department stated that, during the hangover period, there will be the presence of strong rip currents, in addition to waves that are above average in elevation. This factor, therefore, can result in coastal flooding, erosion and destruction of structures in certain cases.
Check out the Fire Department's guidelines for this period:
- Do not approach rocks, viewpoints and cliffs: places with a high risk of accidents;
- Do not practice sports at sea during this period;
- If you practice fishing, it is recommended not to take unnecessary risks in the sea, in addition to always wearing a life jacket;
- If you see someone drowning, call the lifeguard immediately or call 911. Under no circumstances attempt to rescue yourself. Choose to launch some floating material and wait for some professional assistance.
Coldest afternoon of the year
This Wednesday (15), the city of Rio de Janeiro recorded the coldest afternoon of the year. The cold front that hit some regions of Brazil also caused some rain in the capital.
The cold air that reached the capital of Rio de Janeiro heads towards the sea, and the weather will warm up again in the capital of Rio de Janeiro this Thursday (16). The maximum temperature must be 30°C, while the minimum temperature must be 20°C, according to Climatempo.
The weather should also remain firm this Friday (17) and this Saturday (18). On Sunday (19), the entry of moisture facilitated by the movement of a cold front contributes to the formation of heavy clouds, with the possibility of rain in some isolated spots.
