A 23-year-old student was found dead inside the car, in the early hours of Thursday (23) in Criciúma, in the southern region of Santa Catarina. The student, identified as Eduardo Bardini da Silva, who was studying Nutrition, left a gym after training and went to the vehicle. The death was discovered five hours later, according to the Civil Police. The hypothesis admitted by the police is that he suffered sudden death.
Witnesses said that the boy had interrupted training because he felt unwell. He left the place at around 7pm on Wednesday, 29th. Security camera footage showed the student getting into his car, in the gym's parking lot, in the central region of the city. The Military Police were called after some people saw the boy with his head slumped over the steering wheel.
The Fire Department rescue service arrived at the scene shortly after midnight. Rescuers found that Eduardo was already dead.
The death certificate indicates pulmonary thromboembolism and dilated heart disease as the main causes of death. Health problems like these occur without apparent signs in healthy people, in cases classified as sudden death.
Eduardo's body underwent an autopsy and was released for burial. The student lived in São Ludgero, in the same region, but was moving to Criciúma. The gym where Eduardo occasionally trained released a note of condolence and solidarity with the young man's family and friends.
On the 24th and 25th, the student had participated in a functional nutrition conference in Florianópolis, the state capital. On social media, friends and relatives mourned the boy's death.
