The Chilanzar District Criminal Court of Tashkent sentenced a 24-year-old student for selling the NOT token of the Web3 gaming project Notcoin. This is reported local media.
According to the case file, on June 1, the police received a complaint about illegal activities carried out by a young man with crypto assets.
During the hearing, the defendant said that he had collected a “crypto-asset in Telegram” and sold Notcoin for 800,000 soums (~$62.41). He asked the court to reduce the punishment because he did not know about the illegality of this action. The student also indicated that he is the only breadwinner in the family.
The court sentenced him to 10 days of administrative arrest and also ordered the destruction of the Galaxy A30 phone and the bank plastic card used to carry out transactions.
Since January 2024, Uzbekistan has introduced fines and sentences for illegal transactions with cryptocurrencies.
The country also has mandatory registration for cryptocurrency service providers. Since August 2022, authorities have been blocking unlicensed trading platforms.
