The state of Rio de Janeiro showed a 45% increase in cases of violence against women in 2022 compared to 2021. The data is from the bulletin Elas Vivem, released this week by the Security Observatories Network.
With 545 cases of violence against the female public in 2022, Rio almost doubled the number of 2021, when 375 events were recorded in the same survey. Even so, São Paulo ranked first, with 898 cases last year, one every ten hours.
Another five states were monitored: Bahia, Ceará, Pernambuco, Maranhão and Piauí. Taking into account everyone’s data, the survey recorded that a case of femicide was monitored every 24 hours.
And at least one woman was the victim of violence in 2022 every four hours. There were 2423 cases registered last year, 495 of which ended in death.
“Every woman who is a victim of any type of violence, whether sexual, physical, patrimonial, moral or psychological, should seek to register an occurrence at the neighborhood police stations or, preferably, at a specialized police station, which already has the necessary support to assist women. victim. This occurrence helps other women, as the aggressor is already registered. What is very difficult sometimes is managing to configure psychological violence, so we need to talk about it”, clarified family lawyer Barbara Heliodora de Avellar Peralta.
“Usually, physical violence begins with repeated psychological violence, trying to disqualify the woman’s narrative, trying to discredit the very reality of the facts. And the woman is even in doubt whether in fact what is happening is her delusion or not. This is part of the violence,” she continued.
Most of the records in the seven states have partners and ex-partners of the victims as perpetrators of violence. They are responsible for 75% of cases of femicide. The main motivations are fights and relationship breakups.
