With 2021 England left the European Union and in this way the agreement that the university students use to study abroad, the famous Erasmus.

In 2019-2020, 262 Italian higher education institutions were involved in the Erasmus project and in the same year 47,117 Erasmus transfers between students and staff were supported, a figure that marks a + 17.2% compared to the previous academic year.

Spain, France and the United Kingdom (about 32 thousand Europeans arrived on the island) have always been the most requested and most sought-after destinations. But after Brexit, what about students who want to go to England for an experience?

With 2021, Italian students and all other European and non-European students will be considered international students.

The Government thus abandoned the Erasmus e has decided to launch the exchange program on an international scale Alan Turing, taking its name from the English mathematician who managed to crack the encrypted code of the German troops during the Second World War, but no one yet knows what the funding will be and how it will develop.

For students who are currently already in the Erasmus program there will be no changes until the expiry of the program they signed up for. There will also be no changes for Europeans who are attending university courses in Great Britain or for those who have already entered the country and will enroll within the next few months.

University prices
Until now, Europeans paid college tuition like the British, which is around £ 10,000 a year. From next year, however, they will have to pay about three times as much, thus reaching 30 thousand.

Horizon Europe
However, things do not change for the European research grants, called Erc grants, which can still be awarded to researchers in Great Britain (95 and a half billion pounds were invested from 2021 to 2027).

English courses
For those who want to attend an English course in the UK for a maximum period of 6 months, then a visa is not required. If you choose to study for more than 6 months, then you will need to apply for a student visa. There will be a short study visa for those studying English courses in the UK for a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 11 months + a ‘classic’ student visa required for those who want to study English for more than 11 months or any other type of course for more than 6 months. Only accredited courses included in this list can be attended.

You can apply for a short study visa (from 6 to 11 months) directly online. The price is around 160 €. The visa for students over 11 months will cost around € 380 and can still be requested online. In order to obtain it, it is necessary to have at least an intermediate level of English demonstrated through official certification.

From 1 October 2021 an identity card will no longer be accepted, so a passport will be needed.
