Stylish Opel Manta A coupe from the 70s turned into an electric car

Opel has produced many cars that have earned the title of cult. One of them is the Opel Manta A sports coupe, imbued with the flavor of the 70s. A group of enthusiastic employees of the company undertook to transform it into a modern electric vehicle, combining innovation and classics as much as possible. The project was approved by the management and this week the result of several months of work was presented to everyone’s attention.

The electric car has retained the continuity of the original model, made 50 years ago. Not only the exterior has been preserved, but also the rear-wheel drive. However, the four-cylinder engine gave way to a 108 kW or 147 hp electric motor, making the GSe, as the redesigned car, the most powerful Manta A ever built in Opel. For comparison, the Manta GT / E variant produced in 1974 and 1975 was equipped with a 77 kW (105 hp) engine. The driver of an electric vehicle can choose to manually shift the original four-speed gearbox or shift into fourth gear and then use only the pedals.

The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 31 kWh provides an average range of about 200 km. Like the production electric cars Opel Corsa-e and Opel Mokka-e, the Manta GSe can use braking energy to recharge the battery. Normal charging is done with a 9 kW on-board charger. It takes just under four hours to fully charge.

The designers ditched the chrome bumpers found on the original model. The wheel arches feature custom-designed 17-inch Ronal aluminum wheels. The lighting equipment is made of LED, large-format screens appeared in the cabin. The seats are borrowed from the Opel Adam S.
