Subaru introduced the first electric car: an almost complete copy of Toyota bZ4X

Back in the spring of this year, within the framework of the Shanghai International Motor Show, Toyota showed the first prototype of the bZ4X electric crossover, and a little later it was reported that Subaru would release its own model on the basis of this car, called the Solterra. And today, November 11, the Subaru electric crossover was officially unveiled – there are not so many differences from its platform brother, as expected, but the brand has managed to retain its characteristic features. For example, the front of the Toyota bZ4X turned out to be quite simple and unsophisticated, while the Solterra has a stylish hexagonal plastic cap instead of a radiator grill.

The decor of the bumpers, both front and rear, is also slightly different in cars – the Subaru Solterra has plastic covers, round fog lights, and a more aggressive shape of the bumper itself. At the same time, the shape of the running lights on cars is absolutely identical, although the optics themselves, apparently, are different. But in the cabin it will be even more problematic to find differences, since there are practically none – electric cars of Japanese brands received identical displays of the multimedia system, the dashboard, the location of the hardware controls, even the shape of the decor on the door cards is the same.

However, such a relationship should not surprise anyone – the point is that although Subaru Solterra is built on the basis of the e-Subaru Global Platform, and Toyota bZ4X is assembled on e-TNGA, in fact it is one and the same platform, the companies just call them by their names. This “cart” was created jointly in the format of a commercial alliance, and identical elements of the interior and body were dictated, apparently, by the desire to unify production, reducing the cost of assembly. At the same time, in the engine compartment, although this term is not applied to electric cars, there are still differences between cars.

For example, Toyota bZ4X is supplied to potential buyers on front or all-wheel drive, while Subaru refused the first option – Solterra will be sold only on all-wheel drive, for this, 80 kW electric motors were installed on the front and rear axles (the total power is 218 horsepower ). Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not provide any information on overclocking. But the car will receive a smart slipping system, an assistant for overcoming off-road obstacles and a host of other assistive technologies.

Subaru Solterra will go to assembly in mid-2022, the electric crossover will be sold in the USA, Japan, Europe, Canada and, of course, China. The price has not yet been announced.
