Submarine missing without oxygen: Company CEO neglected risks, expert assesses

In an interview with CNN the engineer Gerardo Portela a specialist in risk management and safety, assessed that the CEO of OceanGate, the company responsible for the vessel, neglected the risks of the expedition.

“It is a failure of risk management. The Titanic sank more than 100 years ago and from there came the International Maritime Organization, which is about maritime security, and lessons were learned,” she said.

“However, a company manager disregarded these rules and ventured to take passengers to an activity neglecting risk management. And the result is there, ”he added.

Portela pointed out that the Titanic is a symbol of negligence in risk management.

“More than a century later, there are still people who cannot learn the lessons,” he said.

The expert said the submersible should have undergone a class analysis.
