Sudan: Restrictions imposed by army on former Prime Minister Hamdock lifted

Based on the current agreement between the army and the parties, Hamdock will form an independent government of technocrats, said Fadla Burma Nasir, the leader of the Umma party that took part in the negotiations.

With the October coup The army ousted the previous government and arrested several high-ranking officials while placing Hamdock under house arrest, derailing the path to a democratic transition after the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

Tear gas at protesters outside the Presidential Palace

The Sudanese security forces fired tear gas to disperse a crowd of protesters who were on their way to the presidential palace in Khartoum.

According to a correspondent of the French Agency, the agreement between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the ousted Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok is expected to be signed in the next few hours at the presidential palace. Based on this agreement, which is being denounced by the protesters, Hamdock will be reinstated and will form a technocratic government.

Thousands of protesters, holding Sudanese flags and photographs of those killed in anti-coup rallies, gathered earlier in the center of the capital chanting slogans against Burhan, the coup leader who ousted the government on October 25.
