Qatar’s embassy in Khartoum was attacked by gunmen and vandalized, according to the emirate’s and Sudanese foreign ministries. Embassy staff have been away for several weeks due to the war rocking Sudan.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Sudan’s army chief and de facto leader, blamed the attack on General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo’s paramilitary organization, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In its announcement, the Foreign Ministry said that members of the DTY attacked and ransacked the embassy, taking with them computers and vehicles.
It is not the first time that Khartoum accuses the DTY of attacks on diplomatic missions: tIt holds them responsible for a series of other attacks, on the embassies of India and South Korea, on the residence of Swiss diplomats, on a section of the Turkish consulate and on the cultural affairs office of Saudi Arabia.
In its own statement, Doha clarified that there were no casualties from this attack, as embassy staff had already been evacuated for security reasons.
