Suddenly: Xiaomi has become the leader in smartphone sales in 12 countries

Until recently, it was difficult to even imagine that Xiaomi could become the leading smartphone manufacturer in the world, overtaking such giants as Samsung, Apple and Huawei. But it happened. According to the results of the first quarter of 2021, Xiaomi became the leader in 12 markets. This achievement of his company was shared by the vice president of Xiaomi and the general manager of the Redmi brand Lu Weibing.

From Lu Weibing’s post, it follows that Xiaomi has become the main smartphone brand in 12 countries. These are Russia, Spain, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Croatia, Lithuania, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Colombia. Also, a top manager of the Chinese manufacturer mentioned that Xiaomi for the first time in history took second place in the smartphone market throughout Europe and has been leading in Eastern Europe for two quarters in a row. And in Spain, Xiaomi is the number one brand for five quarters in a row. Among other things, Xiaomi managed to take the fourth line in the ranking of the “50 best brands in China.”

By the way, earlier Xiaomi announced that in 2020 the company managed to earn 152.2 billion yuan on smartphones, which is 24.6% more compared to 2019. Over the 12 months of last year, the manufacturer delivered a total of 146.4 million smartphones, demonstrating an annual increase in shipments of 17.5%. And for 2021, the company has set itself an even more ambitious goal – to sell more than 200 million smartphones on the global market. But the implementation of this plan may be hampered by the ongoing epidemic of the coronavirus, which has now spread to India, one of the important markets for Xiaomi, where the brand’s devices are sold in millions of copies. Also, we must not forget about the growth in the cost of Xiaomi smartphones, because of which the company may lose its main advantage over competitors – a lower price tag for devices, all other things being equal.
