Taliban refugee minister Khalil Haqqani was killed in a suicide bombing in the Afghan capital, Kabul, this Wednesday (11), the country’s Ministry of Interior declared.
A suicide bomber disguised himself as a visitor at the Interior Ministry complex on Wednesday and detonated a bomb while Haqqani was signing paperwork, a ministry spokesperson told CNN.
Khalil Haqqan, was the uncle of the current Taliban Interior Minister, Sarajuddin Haqqani.
The minister is the most high-profile victim of bombing in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power three years ago.
In 2011, the United States designated Khalil Haqqani as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, offering a reward of up to $5 million for information related to him. It is also on the United Nations Security Council’s 1988 Sanctions List.
Haqqani’s network carried out a series of major attacks during the country’s war and tensions arose between them and the Taliban.
