What does it have to do with it? Suki Waterhouse with Lady Diana? At first glance not much, but stylistically speaking there is something that (surprisingly) unites them.
The English actress and model, a few hours ago, in fact published on TikTok a video of a few seconds where she dances wrapped in a dress that she herself reveals to be the exact same model, albeit a different colour, worn by the late Princess of Wales in Kyoto, in 1986during a state banquet.
«Are you wearing the Zandra Rhodes dress that Diana wore to the dinner in Kyoto? Yes…” says the audio accompanying the video, a recognizable parody of a conversation from the famous film The devil wears Prada. “it’s the cream-colored version, but still princess-like” Suki Waterhouse writes in the caption of the post where, for a few moments, the photo also appears of the royal wearing that same dress, but in pink.

The latter, in the mid-eighties, During a completely unexpected visit to the brand’s London boutique on Grafton Street, she set eyes on the item in question, that is, a chiffon dress with pearls, crystals, embroidery, originally black. As can still be read on the website of the auction house Kerry Taylor Auctions – where the boss was sold for £25,000 to the Historic Royal Palaces Foundation – it was Zandra herself who suggested to the princess to change the color in a sophisticated pink shade with ivory print (perhaps, who knows, evoking the cherry blossoms of Japan).

A piece of advice that the princess actually accepted. The dress, featuring an elegant bateau neckline, took three days to make, and two fittings were held in the royal’s private apartments at Kensington Palace.

Indeed, the garment was one of the most loved in her wardrobe, so much so that it became one of the key pieces of the exhibition. Fashion Rules held at Kensington Palace in 2016.
