Sullivan: US wants to deepen economic ties with Taiwan

The United States is seeking to deepen economic ties with Taiwan, including on high-tech issues, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday on his way to Japan with President Joe Biden, according to Reuters.

During his first trip to Japan since taking office, Biden will attend a summit of the Quad countries, meeting with the leaders of Japan, India and Australia. Regional security issues will be high on the agenda.

“We do not want to see unilateral changes in the status quo and we certainly do not want to see military aggression. And we want this message to come not only from us, but from a number of allies and partners, both in the region and beyond,” he said. Sullivan to reporters at Air Force One.

“We seek to deepen our economic partnership with Taiwan, including on high-tech issues, including semiconductors and supply chains,” he said.
