Summer holidays: tickets are cheaper in Brazil, and Recife leads the searches

Summer holidays are approaching in the Southern Hemisphere and data points to a drop in ticket prices round trip in economy class for travel within Brazil. Recife, São Paulo and Maceió lead the most searched national destinations and Orlando, Miami and Lisbon come out ahead in relation to international choices .

The data are from a survey of the Kayak a travel metasearch engine that considers the period from December 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025 as the summer vacation .

Beach destinations come out on top among the most popular searches within Brazil. Outside the country, Florida remains at the top, but Europe appears strongly among the most desired locations by Brazilians.

Cheapest national tickets

According to Kayak’s analysis, the Round-trip tickets for domestic flights are around 11% cheaper compared to the same period of the 2023/2024 summer holidays. The average price is R$1,904.

The Kayak study also indicates that, for domestic flights, tickets in the first week of December and the last two weeks of January are cheaper within the high season scenario – tickets in these periods are, on average, a third more affordable than than in peak weeks, close to Christmas and New Year.

Flights to destinations in Central America and the Caribbean also show a drop: tickets are, respectively, 7% and 4% cheaper for the regions, with average prices of R$4,867 and R$4,848.

Increases in average prices were noted for flights to North America, South America and Europe. The prices are, respectively, R$6,804 (16% increase compared to the previous period); R$3,164 (5% increase) and R$7,007 (3% increase).

International tourists in Brazil

The Kayak survey also took into account the interest from international tourists for destinations within Brazil. It is worth mentioning that Embratur projects that the country will close the year with more than 6.6 million international tourists.

Trending destinations

Kayak’s research also listed some popular destinations inside and outside Brazil. These are places that had the biggest growth in searches for summer holidays compared to the same period last year.

Macapá (AM) leads the increase in domestic searches, with an increase of 91% this year compared to the previous year. The cities on the rise that come next are: Imperatriz (MA), Petrolina (PE), Marabá (PA), Juazeiro do Norte (CE), São Luiz (MA), Belém (PA), Maringá (PR), Recife ( PE) and Vitória da Conquista (BA).

Regarding the international scenario, Tampa, Florida, is the destination that saw the most growth in searches for this summer, with an increase of 100% when compared to the previous period. Tokyo, Japan, also had a significant increase, with 43% – now a visa is no longer required to enter the Asian country.

After Tampa, the international destinations that registered a significant increase in searches are San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina), Boston (USA), Tokyo (Japan), Toronto (Canada), Fort Lauderdale (USA), Santiago (Chile), Berlin (Germany), Madrid (Spain) and Willemstad (Curação).
