In an interview with CNN this Saturday (11), FAAP professor of International Relations Carlos Gustavo Poggio said that the Summit of the Americas without the presence of Brazil would be an empty event.
“If the summit was empty, imagine without the presence of Brazil. It would be a historically empty event, more than [esse] gone,” he said.
According to Poggio, the meeting that took place this week in Los Angeles “was the emptiest meeting ever.”
“The first meeting of the Summit of the Americas was attended by 34 countries. Now, there were 23 presidents. We had important absences, many heads of state did not attend. Some sent representatives,” he said.
In the professor’s assessment, what could be seen at the summit was a “disunity between countries”. And in terms of the bilateral meeting, Poggio said the meeting between Bolsonaro and Biden was positive for both nations.
He believes that posing for a photo with Joe Biden is good for Bolsonaro’s image, to “show that he is not isolated from a diplomatic point of view”.
And for the United States, the professor says that it was a meeting of convenience because “it helped to strengthen the meeting and the US posture of not inviting the countries Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua”.
