Sun and Moon, as are the new Starbucks coffee blends exclusively in Milan

The blend is the same, produced with coffee grown in Nariño, in Colombia, and in Sumatra, in Indonesia, but a different roasting, with distinctive flavor notes, enhances the differences and reveals to the taste – in terms of acidity, body and flavor – the opposites quality. Thus what in the blend composes and harmonizes West and East, in the roasting separates again and the opposites explode again in aromas and flavors that forcefully reaffirm their specific qualities. Day and night, yin and yang, cold and hot… not for nothing are the two new cafés a signature Starbucks, limited and special edition, are named after Starbucks Milan Sun And Starbucks Milan Luna where Milan is at the same time a unique vibrant with cultural and design humus that has its roots firmly in the tradition of the city's neighborhood coffee shops but then splits into the phases that characterize the alternation of light and dark during the day, and coffee becomes the ritual that accompanies, with different methods and needs, morning breakfast at the bar or after dinner at the restaurant.

Starbucks Master Roaster Oscar Quintana illustrated the differences between the two limited edition of Starbucks Milan

Accompanied in the tasting by the Master Roaster Oscar Quintana and his two chemexes (the jug now exhibited at the MoMa in New York which allows the drink to be filtered and extracted) we were able to taste for ourselves how the washed method of Nariño coffee contributes to increasing the acidity and to ensure a clean finish, while the semi-washed method of North Sumatran coffee gives a distinctive full body and earthy, herbaceous flavor notes. But it is from the two roasting processes, light and dark, that the differences arise. As, Starbucks Milan Sun having a profile
lighter roasted blends notes of juicy pomegranate with vanilla custard and a pinch of nutmeg. And because of its high acidity and medium body it pairs well with citrus, caramel and cinnamon flavors.
Starbucks Milan Luna instead, it is an ode to the heritage of dark roasted coffee, placing emphasis on distilled notes of dark chocolate truffle and toasted black walnut and with a low-acid, medium-full-bodied roast revealing a luxurious flavor on the palate that Pairs well with cheeses, almonds and maple.

The double packaging inspired by the Milan Roastery

The theme of the double is also taken up in the original packaging of the packages in which shapes and textures are depicted which freely take inspiration from the Palladian flooring and the coffee silo present inside the Milan Roastery, while the illustrations of the botanicals once again underline the significant connection between coffee, Starbucks and art.

Everyone has their favorite, everyone has the chance to taste it and purchase it exclusively from now on from Tuesday 21 May, for a limited period until 3 June, at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Milan. Customers who will visit the Roastery from May 21st to May 26th they will also be able to try the two coffees in limited edition artisanal recipes such as Starbucks Milano Luna Caramel Macchiato and Starbucks Milano Sole Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, or opt for a tasting that includes both roasts extracted hot, with the Clover Brewed system, or cold, with the cold-brew technique.

To celebrate the launch, on May 21st, the Starbucks Reserve™ Roastery Milan will transform and offer guests immersive experiences that bring to life the intersection of coffee, art and music while showcasing the duality and contrast between light and dark. Just as art is able to modify perceptions and generate wonder, Starbucks thus invites its visitors to explore an experiential journey to discover the world of roasting and the art of coffee.

During the day, the Milanese artists Orticanoodles will create some murals inspired by the contrast and complementarity between light and dark, day and night, Sun and Moon. Inside the Roastery, customers will be able to experience a dynamic digital installation that will reinterpret the coffee roasting process thanks to an evocative three-dimensional animation: they will be able to witness – through a digital window – the journey that the coffee beans make during roasting, presented as particles that move and interact with each other. Finally, two partners of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery as DJs will accompany the different experiences, available in store only on Tuesday 21 May and from 7.30am to 4pm. All activities are open to the public, without the need for registration, and can be accessed on a first-come, first-served basis.
