Sunak apologizes for leaving the D-Day anniversary celebrations early

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak apologized for leaving early yesterday, Thursday, and not attending the major international ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the day of the Normandy landings, to give a campaign TV interview in his country. The prime minister said it was “a mistake” not to stay in France for the international event, having earlier attended the British event in Normandy. “After completing the British event in Normandy, I returned to the UK,” Sunak, who is struggling to win the support of voters ahead of the July 4 election, wrote to X. “I care deeply about veterans and it has been an honor to represent the UK at a number of events in Portsmouth and France over the last two days and to meet those who have fought so bravely. “It was a mistake not to stay longer in France and I apologize,” he added.
