The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom stood in the united stance of Greece and Britain towards the war being waged in Ukraine, Rishi Sunakon the occasion of her anniversary 25th of Marchnoting that the two countries have shared positions for centuries.
In his congratulatory statement he notes that “for two centuries we have stood by each other’s side as friends and allies. Today, Britain and Greece are united in condemning Russia’s horrific invasion of Ukraine as we stand up for our shared values of democracy, the rule of law and human rights.”
“Our governments,” he adds, “are working to develop even stronger links between Britain and Greece in many areas, for example strengthening our £10 billion trade relationship and expanding the unique network of relationships and contacts of our citizens in the fields of culture and education, entrepreneurship and tourism. I am confident that the relationship between the two proud and independent states will continue to develop and grow stronger.”
He concludes by referring to the historic anniversary, saying that “the United Kingdom is proud of the role it played in the Struggle for Greek Independence and the creation of the modern Greek state. I send my warmest wishes to the Greek people who today celebrate more than 200 years of independence”.
