Supermarket is looking for employees and the “test” it puts to candidates in the interview causes reactions

Recently, a woman made a post in a Facebook group dedicated to a supermarket chain in Australia and denounced the recruitment process to her relative as she stated that interview through which it passed was not the standard.

“It wasn’t the typical, ‘tell us about yourself’ style,” but more of a showcase gymnasts capabilities made via Zoom. So, he asked the rest of the team if this was a tactic consistently followed by this particular company Super Market or if it was something random, an individual decision of the person interviewing for the job.

“Is there an employee here who can answer that? A relative of mine recently interviewed for a job at the supermarket and after going to the store she was then asked to take part in a group interview at Zoom. There they told her what she had to do push ups, deep squats and jumps in order to demonstrate her fitness level”, he said characteristically. “Is this part of the process or did someone just cross the line?” he wondered.

The reactions

Her comment began to provoke a backlash. “I work for the company and have never heard this as part of an interview,” wrote one user. Others, again, were surprised by the store’s policy. “This is scary” and “strange” wrote some other accounts.

“I would walk out of the interview very quickly,” said one person, while another said he would demand to know why these gymnastics demonstrations had to take place via Zoom. One even wrote: “Why is all this necessary, they sit all day long (including those who work in supermarkets)”.

Finally, another account pointed out: “Whether it is a necessary qualification for the job or not is another matter, but such exercises they should be done in a specialized area and not through Zoom and furthermore, what qualifications does the interviewer have to understand someone’s physical condition in these circumstances?».
