Surprise auction for 76-million-year-old dinosaur fossil – Under the hammer for $5 million to $8 million

A special one auction will be held by Sotheby’s in New York, according to the AP and involves one of the most impressive dinosaur skeletons, a relative of the Tyrannosaurus rex that dominated the earth before about 76 million years.

Gorgosaurus was one top carnivore which lived in what is now the western United States and Canada during the late Cretaceous period. Predated Tyrannosaurus rex by 10 million years.

The fossil was discovered in 2018 near the city Havre, Montana, according to the house. He is tall almost 3 meters Msi length 6.7 meters.

As the Athens News Agency reports, it is the only fossil available for private propertywhile those Gorgosaurus skeletons that have been found belong to museum collections, the auction house said.

“In my career, I have had the privilege of handling and selling exceptional and unique items, but few have the ability to inspire admiration and capture the imagination like this one incredible skeleton of Gorgosaurus,” said Cassandra Hatton, Head of Science and Culture at Sotheby’s.

According to the publication, the estimate of the house is 5 to 8 million dollars.
