Survey indicates the 38 best companies for LGBTQIA+ professionals to work for

A survey released on Thursday (9) selected the 38 best companies for LGBTQIA+ people to work in Brazil.

In its first edition, the study “Best Places to Work for LGBTQIA+ People 2022” was carried out by the Mais Diversidade Institute in partnership with the LGBTI+ Business and Rights Forum and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), which carries out, in the United States, the Business Equality Index since 2002.

The study provided a comprehensive analysis of the adoption of inclusive policies related to LGBTQIA+ people in companies of different sizes and sectors. In the methodology, the criteria were based on the experience of implementing the HRC Business Equality Index, considered a reference of the requirements that a company must fulfill to be considered inclusive in relation to the LGBT+ population in the United States.

To assess the practices, five fundamental pillars were considered: non-discrimination policies and institutional documents; governance in diversity and inclusion; education for LGBTQIA+ diversity; public commitments and monitoring of LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

More than 100 national and multinational organizations operating in Brazil joined the study, but 60 completed the questionnaire. Of these, 38 received the maximum grade of 100 points and 22 obtained grades between 0 and 90 points.

According to Ricardo Sales, CEO of Instituto Mais Diversidade, the survey shows that issues of diversity and inclusion have been firmly on the agendas of the Brazilian business community, but that there is still much to be done.

“We have the challenge of advancing the issue in small and medium-sized organizations, as well as companies outside the Southeast. To move forward, leadership commitment is needed, a strategic vision for the topic and the definition of clear goals and objectives for this agenda”, said Sales.

The CEO also points out that advances do not come to all people or at the necessary speed. “We need to move forward in the inclusion of trans people and LGBTQIA+ people of color,” he points out.
