Susana Zabaleta still asks her father for permission to have a partner

Susana Zabaleta, Mexican soprano, actress, conductor and producer, has once again caused controversy in the world of entertainment and not because of a new project, but because of an incredible confession regarding her love life.

In an interview for the program Montse & Joe, the soprano admitted that, despite being 58 years old, her father still approves of her love relationships, that is, he is the one who tells her whether or not she can start dating a certain man. As expected, the confession has caused a stir, as there are those who claim that she is old enough to choose for herself.

During the interview, Zabaleta mentioned that she still follows certain traditions and codes that she learned in her native Monclova, Coahuila, such as greeting her father with a kiss on the hand or that he is the one who approves her next boyfriend.

The singer explained that she warned her last partner that, to be boyfriends, they had to travel to Monclova to introduce themselves to their father and that he would give them his approval, a situation that neither her lover nor anyone on the set believed.

I do believe in customs, very family, what has to be done, Christmas. There are education codes that are never broken and my children know them… The last time I had a boyfriend, he told me: ‘I want to meet your family’, I told him ‘No, you have to go to Monclova’. He told me ‘How?’ I said ‘Yes, you have to go present with my family’. He told me ‘Wait for me, do I have to go ask your dad for permission to have a fifties-something girlfriend?’ I told him: ‘Yes, that’s how it is.’

Zabaleta shared that maintaining this custom has brought her problems, but, at the same time, it has freed her from bad experiences.

My dad told me: ‘This clever little Argentine, I don’t like him at all’, and I: ‘Uta madr*, okay, he’s good’ and he was right. Of course it affected his comment. Well, they see something, when you’re in love, they see something that you don’t see, that you say ‘Who knows why the old man is saying it’.

Monserrat Olivier, host of the program, was surprised that the singer still follows such an old tradition, especially since she is known as a strong, brave and very independent woman. In turn, Zabaleta’s revelation has generated comments on social networks, as some say that she should make her own decisions, especially in matters of love.
