A man was arrested and remanded in custody on suspicion of assassination of a high-ranking military officer and a former submarine commander accused by Kiev of involvement in a deadly bombing in Ukraine. Suspect Sergei Denisenko will remain in custody for two months, a spokesman for the Krasnodar city court said, cited by Russia’s Tass news agency. According to this source, Denisenko confessed to the murder but said his motives were “personally” and that he “does not cooperate” with the Ukrainian secret services”.
Denisenko was arrested on Tuesday in an apartment in the city of Tuapse, Krasnodar Region. A pistol was found in his possession.
The Russian authorities announced Monday that Stanislav Rzhitsky was found dead on a street in Krasnodar, and several Russian media outlets reported that he was killed while jogging. He was deputy head of the city’s recruiting office and previously served as commander of the Russian submarine Krasnodar.
Ukraine claims that this submarine fired missiles in July 2022 at the city of Vinnytsia, killing more than 23 people, including many children.
His father Stanislav Rzytsky told Baza media according to the Athens News Agency that his son left the army before the Russian attack on Ukraine began and therefore did not take part in the military operations.
