Suspect confesses persecution and murder of Dom and Bruno in Amazonas

In new testimonies this Friday morning (17), Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, known as Pelado, the first suspect arrested in the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Dom Phillips and indigenist Bruno Pereira, confessed to the Federal Police that he participated in the murder of the duo. In his first deposition, Pelado had confessed to having buried the bodies, but denied having shot the pair.

The suspect also gave more details of how Dom and Bruno were captured by the criminals. He described in the deposition obtained by the CNN who, with a partner, chased the indigenist and the journalist by boat to the place where they were hit by gunshots. Dom and Bruno died with those shots.

According to the testimony, Pelado reinforced that the crime was not premeditated and that he did not have a mastermind. According to the content of the hearing, Pelado said he was angry with the indigenist. He said that other people, residents of a nearby community where the crime took place, would have helped him. One helped to kill the duo and the other to hide the bodies.

Altogether, the PF investigates that at least five people are suspected of participating in the crime. In addition to Pelado, his brother, Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, is also temporarily detained for investigation.

In a press conference on Wednesday (15), the PF reported that Bruno and Dom were murdered because of complaints about illegal fishing in the region.

the superintendent of Federal police at the amazon Eduardo Fontes stated that there would have been a “clash” involving the two victims and the suspects, who would have carried out a “firearm shot” in the bed of the Itaquaí River.

Also on Wednesday, the Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, said that human remains were found in the area of ​​the search for the missing. This Friday, the dental arch examination carried out at the National Institute of Criminalistics in Brasília confirmed that one of the remains found belongs to the English journalist.

The remains of the Brazilian indigenist and journalist arrived in Brasília on Thursday night (16). The pair disappeared on the 5th, in Vale do Javari, in Amazonas.
