The suspect in the apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump “did not come close to firing a bullet,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Monday (16) during a press conference.
“What we did yesterday proves that the system can work, because the suspect didn’t even come close to firing a bullet and we arrested him and brought him to justice,” he highlighted.
Acting Director of the U.S. Secret Service Ronald Rowe Jr. told the news conference that the suspect was on the public side of the golf course fence.
“As former President Trump moved across the fairway and out of sight of the sixth hole, the agent [do Serviço Secreto]who was visually scanning the sixth hole area, saw the subject armed with what he perceived to be a rifle and immediately fired,” he reported.
According to the director, “the guy who had no line of sight to the former president [Trump] and fled the scene. He did not fire or shoot any shots at our officers.”
The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, fled the scene in a car but was spotted by a witness. He was later arrested by police.
