Suspect in knife attack that injured six people arrested in France

The suspect in a knife attack that injured six people on Thursday (8) in Annecy, southwestern France, was arrested on Saturday (10).

The information was confirmed to Reuters by the city’s prosecutor, Lise Bonnet-Mathis, at a press conference. The suspect is under formal investigation for attempted murder and resisting arrest with a weapon.

Among the injured were four children and two pensioners. After the attack, all the injured were taken to the hospital and, according to the prosecutor, none of them were at risk of death.

French President Emmanuel Macron said “the nation is in shock” after the attack.

“Absolute cowardice this morning in a park in Annecy. Children and adults are between life and death. The nation is in shock. Our thoughts are with them, their families and the emergency services,” Macron wrote on his social media.

Health Minister François Braun said his thoughts were with the victims of the attack.

“All my thoughts immediately go to the people injured by an individual armed with a knife in Annecy and their loved ones,” commented Braun.

“I salute the rapid mobilization of emergency services to care for the victims, with emphasis on the Emergency Medical Care Service.”

French National Assembly lawmakers held a minute’s silence for those injured in the attack.
