Sweden police stopped a 16-year-old suspected of shooting and killing three people in the city of Uppsala on Tuesday (29). The three victims were between 15 and 20 years old, police said.
The individual is one of several questions about the attack, said the Swedish prosecutor on Wednesday (30), according to Reuters.
The police conducted door to door searches for more witness information.
A major operation was mobilized after gunfire near Vaksala Square in Uppsala, said public broadcaster SVT, adding that the suspect would have fled the scene in an electric scooter.
Witnesses reported that they heard tall bangs that resembled shots. Several people were found with injuries that also indicated shots.
“We received several reports of overflows in the area. That’s what we can say right now. I can’t say anymore,” said Magnus Klarin, the Swedish police spokesman, before the deaths, according to SVT.
The reason for Tuesday’s attack is not yet clear. Earlier this year, the European Parliament said Sweden is “currently fighting a wave of gang violence.”
