The Civil Police of Pernambuco arrested a man in Petrolina, in the backlands of the state, suspected of extortion after threatening to release intimate photos of a woman. The images had been found on a cell phone that the victim left at a repair shop for repairs. The criminal demanded R$200,000 to not release the photos.
The suspect fled to Santa Catarina, but returned to Pernambuco, where he was located and arrested. The operation was conducted by the Cybercrime Repression Unit, with support from the 4th Organized Crime Repression Unit (4th DECOR), under the coordination of delegate Eronides Meneses.
The investigation began in May 2024, when the victim reported that, in April, her mother received an email containing a blackmail message.
The suspect asked how much the victim would be willing to pay to keep her intimate photos from being published. The cell phone had previously been left at a repair shop for repairs, which raised suspicions.
In the following weeks, the criminal made new contacts, this time via WhatsApp, increasing the pressure with blackmail and demanding R$200,000. Concerned about the possible disclosure of the images, the victim contacted the police. See some messages:

Through the investigation, the police discovered the man’s identity and traced a phone number linked to him in Santa Catarina. It was also found that the suspect worked as a cell phone repairman in Petrolina, the city where the victim lived. An arrest and search and seizure warrant was issued by the court.
The criminal was initially located in Santa Catarina, but before being arrested he returned to Pernambuco. With the help of the 4th DECCOR/DRACCO, he was arrested in Petrolina. The operation was supported by the Intelligence Directorate of the Civil Police of Pernambuco (Dintel).
The suspect now faces extortion charges, and the case remains under investigation.
