Suspect of killing elderly man with “flyer” in Santos has habeas corpus denied

The São Paulo Court denied the habeas corpus request made by the lawyers of Tiago Gomes de Souza, suspected of killing an elderly man with a “flying” in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, last Saturday (8). He remains in pre-trial detention.

The request was made by the suspect’s lawyers, who claim that the preventive detention decision was inadequate and based “on the abstract gravity of the crime that occurred”, without meeting the necessary legal requirements.

The lawyers also stated that the accused is a first-time offender, has a lawful occupation and is the father of three children, being the main financial responsible for them. Finally, they allege that he undergoes psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment, in addition to continuously using controlled medications.
