The suspect of shooting and killing a National Force agent in Vila Valqueire, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro , was arrested this Wednesday (29). According to the Civil Police, Eduardo Santa Rita Carvalho handed himself in at the Federal Police headquarters, in the Port Zone, and was taken to the Capital Homicide Police Station, in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone.
After carrying out an investigation at the scene of the crime, it was possible to identify the perpetrator. The Police say that the agents carried out several steps to locate the man and that, as a result of this siege, he surrendered.
According to investigations, Eduardo shot Edmar Felipe Alves dos Santos, 36 years old, on Tuesday night (28), during an escape. The National Force agent tried to intervene in a couple’s fight.
After hearing gunshots in the house next to where he had been staying since October, Edmar came out armed and ended up being shot by the suspect. He was taken by firefighters to the Air Force Hospital in Campo dos Afonsos, in Marechal Hermes, in the North Zone, but did not survive. A second person was also shot and taken to a health unit.
Edmar had been a military police officer in Alagoas since 2020 and came to Rio voluntarily to reinforce the actions of the National Force. His body has already been released from Rio’s Legal Medical Institute, expected to arrive late Thursday night at Zumbi dos Palmares Airport, in Alagoas. Then, a procession will take place to the wake location, in Parque das Flores, where the burial will also take place.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security lamented, in a statement issued this Wednesday morning (29), the death of the police officer.
