Suspect of killing woman who posted on social media is arrested in Rio

The Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro arrested a suspect involved in the death of Mary Hellen Thayenne Rodrigues Muniz, aged 34, in November 2023. The man was arrested this Thursday (27).

According to investigations, the crime was motivated by a post on Mary Hellen’s social media. At the time, she published about a theft that had happened at her niece’s house.

The victim was kidnapped in the early hours of November 28, 2023. That day, four hooded men in a car kidnapped her from the door of her house, located in the Deodoro neighborhood, west of Rio de Janeiro. Mary Hellen’s body was found charred in the car that morning.

Regarding the vehicle, it was identified that the car had been stolen minutes before the criminals’ action.

Through image analysis, the Capital Homicide Police (DHC) team managed to identify two perpetrators of the crime. One of those involved, who is 19 years old, was found in the community of Muquiço, in Guadalupe, in the north of the capital. A temporary arrest warrant was served against him.

PCERJ reported that it is still trying to locate the second suspect identified for involvement in the death of Mary Hellen.
