A 54-year-old woman, whose identity was not revealed, was arrested in the act, this Monday (30), by the Federal Police, suspected of committing a crime of racial insult and threatening a couple traveling on the same flight. The plane left Guarulhos (SP) bound for Montes Claros (MG).
According to the police, it was reported to the agents that, during the flight, the woman, who was already showing altered behavior, speaking loudly and in an excited manner, had offended the passengers with racist, xenophobic and homophobic comments.
Two of the victims were businessman João Victor Gomes and his wife, to whom the suspect allegedly said, among other insults, that her hair was “pixaim” and called João fat, in addition to threatening to attack them.
Given the situation, as soon as the aircraft landed in Montes Claros, the flight attendants called the Federal Police, who took the woman to the police station. She was later sent to the prison system. The suspect underwent a custody hearing and will be released.
The penalty for racial insult varies from two to five years in prison and the crime is non-bailable. The crime of threat carries a penalty of one to six months in prison.
In a statement, Latam informed that it requested support from the Federal Police and that it strongly repudiates any type of offense.
