Suspected of shooting an evangelical pastor during a service in Greater São Paulo, Werley Silva Sousa, 36, died after a confrontation with the Military Police of Bahia on Wednesday (23), in Vitória da Conquista (BA).
According to the police, the team was patrolling the Alto Maron neighborhood after receiving reports that an armed man was circulating in the area.
The corporation says that, upon noticing the police officers approaching, Werley tried to hide in a residence and shot at the agents, who reacted. The suspect was hit in the shooting and taken to Base Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
According to the PM, the police seized a 38-caliber revolver with five fired capsules and one intact ammunition, which were sent to the Civil Police.
Werley Sousa was wanted for a crime that occurred in 2018 in Mogi das Cruzes, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. On that occasion, he tried to kill an evangelical pastor during a live broadcast service. He broke into the church and shot the priest, who survived the attack.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the Vitória da Conquista Homicide Police Station opened an investigation to investigate the suspect’s death due to the intervention of public security agents.
