Suspect tells PF that he saw indigenist on the day of the disappearance, but went out to hunt

The main suspect in the disappearance of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips, fisherman Amarildo da Costa Oliveira, known as “Pelado”, told the Federal Police (PF) that he saw the indigenist on the day of the disappearance.

Pelado, however, denied that he went after Bruno and said he left the house to hunt pigs.

According to the report, the suspect would have seen Pereira passing by boat in front of the São Gabriel community. The fisherman also stated that he knows Bruno Pereira “only by sight” and that he has never talked to him.

The information is contained in documents sent by the Federal Police to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Friday (14), in response to a determination by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso.

The PF reports that Pelado said he had been a fisherman for over 30 years in the Itaquaí river area and that he has lived in the São Gabriel community for 10 years. The fisherman said he did not own firearms, “because there is a lot of surveillance by the Peruvian police in the Icelandic region”.

Pelado told the PF that he did not leave his house all Sunday and that he only went out on Monday (6) to hunt pigs. The fisherman is one of the main suspects in the case, along with Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, known as “Dos Santos”, who was arrested this Tuesday.

Witness

The PF states, in the documents sent to the STF, that a witness, whose identification is kept confidential, reported seeing Pelado in the river on Sunday (5), contrary to what the fisherman told the police.

In the deposition, the witness said that Pelado was in a green aluminum speedboat and that he would have overtaken the witness himself.

A little later, the witness said that another man (Dos Santos) met him at the river and asked for a ride. When they arrived at the place where Pelado’s boat was, Dos Santos asked to get off. According to the witness, Dos Santos was carrying a shotgun with him.

“The combination of the above information allows us to infer the presence of strong evidence that Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, alias “Dos Santos” and Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, alias “Pelado” may be involved in the disappearance of Bruno and Dominic,” he concluded. the PF.

The investigators also narrate that the witness “reported that he heard Bruno [Pereira] say that he was being threatened by people who did not accept the activities to combat recurring illegalities against indigenous people in the region”.

“Among the threats received by Bruno, some of them were made by ‘Pelado’”, the witness told the PF, who also reported that the fisherman “sometimes had fired a firearm at the local Funai base and, recently threatened the region’s “watchmen” with a shotgun-type firearm.

The sending of documents responds to a decision by Minister Barroso, who, last Friday (10), determined that the government apply all possible efforts in the search for Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips and send a report on the progress of the investigations to the Supreme Court.
