A suspect of “intense interest” was arrested in Turkey on the assassination in July of Haitian President Jovenel Mois, as the Turkish Foreign Minister announced late Monday night (15/11) Claude Joseph.
Moise, 53, a former businessman who took over the presidency in 2017, was shot and killed inside the presidential residence, while his wife was injured in the attack.
They were judged as key suspects Colombian mercenaries although no charges have been brought against anyone, nor has anyone been convicted in relation to the case, broadcasts ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ.
“I just had a telephone conversation with the Turkish minister, my friend Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu, to thank him for Turkey for the arrest of Samir Hadal, one of the people most interested in the investigation into the assassination of the president,” he wrote. Joseph on Twitter.
Turkish media reported today that Handal, who was wanted by Interpol, was arrested at Istanbul airport from the authorities on a flight from the USA with a stopover in Turkey and a destination in Jordan.
The Turkish Interior Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
