The world is in dire need of sustainable hotels (and sustainable tourism). Yes, because even when we travel we produce impacts that we are often not aware of, but which weigh on the planet that hosts us. To begin to lighten our footprint as travelers, certain precautions are enough (and some of them can be found in this little guide of ours).
But beyond travelers, accommodation facilities are also called upon to play their part. Some have already been committed for some time (and in unsuspecting times, when sustainability was not yet the case glam), others are taking their first steps.
Then there are those who proceed with decision on this path. Every year the US company S&P Global evaluates the realities that implement the best practices in terms of sustainability, among those that are part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (for a smattering of financial indices linked to sustainability, you can read our article). Not only environmental sustainability, attention, but in all its forms, which also embrace the economic and social one. As far as the hotel sector is concerned, NH Hotel Group, which in our country alone has 56 hotels in 26 cities, this year ranked third in the world.
A considerable result not only in an absolute sense, but also in a relative sense: NH Hotel Group has in fact improved its score in numerous aspects that are monitored and evaluated by S&P Global. These include crucial aspects for sustainable hotels, such as risk management, crisis management and the supply chain, but also data protection, human rights and relations with stakeholders, i.e. with all those affected by the action of the group. And then again, among the topics in which NH Hotel Group has made progress are environmental policy and management systems, packaging and finally materiality.
