Suzuki introduced its first electric car: it was developed in India together with Toyota

At the moment, almost all major car manufacturers in the world have presented their electric cars – of course, not every brand has managed to release a production model for sale, but this is only a matter of time. One of the lagging behind in this regard for a long time was Suzuki, which today, January 11, officially presented its first electric car to the world. True, it is worth immediately clarifying that the Suzuki eVX is only a concept vehicle, and not a production model, so some elements of the body or interior may change before the launch of production.

An interesting point is also the fact that the Suzuki eVX electric car is not being developed in Japan, like all vehicles of the company, but in India. Actually, it was there at the Auto Expo 2023 exhibition that the electric car was announced, which is extremely atypical for Japanese manufacturers – usually new items are announced first on the local market, and development in India is also something unique. But the oddities associated with the new electric car do not end there, because Suzuki does not create a car by itself, but together with a whole list of real market giants. Probably, the whole point is that the manufacturer does not have time to create a modern solution on its own or cannot for technical reasons.

For example, the manufacturer entered into a partnership agreement with Toyota in order to be able to use the e-TNGA modular platform – for example, a similar Toyota bZ4X crossover is built on it. True, in the case of Suzuki eVX, a simplified version of this platform is used. In addition, the Indian division of Maruti Suzuki is responsible for the design of the new vehicle, and the Chinese company BYD, which occupies one of the leading positions in its segment, will supply batteries. Accordingly, it is definitely not worth expecting any unique functions or capabilities from the new electric car.

Although the performance of the Suzuki eVX concept is quite good – the manufacturer said that the city crossover will support all-wheel drive due to the twin-engine layout of the electric power plant, while the range will be 550 kilometers on a single charge. Unfortunately, there is no information about acceleration dynamics, smart functions or technical equipment of the electric car yet, as well as photos of the interior. The company will still be finalizing its electric car in order to send it to full-fledged production in 2025 – they will be sold, including in Europe and Asia.
