The press office of New Democracy launches an attack on SYRIZA-PS in an announcement.
This notice states the following:
“The day of mourning for the loss of an important personality like Karolos Papoulias is not suitable for party confrontation. But it is offered for reflection on the attitude of everyone in critical events that marked their political course.
So we would expect from SYRIZA and Mr. Tsipras, along with the complimenting words about the deceased and a rudimentary self-criticism for black incidents like that in October 2011 when thugs canceled the parade in Thessaloniki calling Karolos Papoulias a traitor.
When SYRIZA saw in their unacceptable actions “a spontaneous popular manifestation of sacred indignation and anger worthy of the best fighting traditions of our people for national dignity, social justice and democracy”. The words of self-criticism are not just a debt to the one who left. It would also be a commitment that the black pages of the past will not be repeated. ”
The announcement of SYRIZA
Earlier in his announcement about the loss of Karolos Papoulias, SYRIZA stressed: “Karolos Papoulias has been one of the most influential political figures of recent decades, both for the political life of Greece in general and for the Democratic Party in particular.
He was a man of gentle tones, a politician who knew the importance of balances in the national interest and for many years a close associate of high trust and confidentiality of Andreas Papandreou.
A fighter of the National Resistance and the Struggle against the Dictatorship from a young age, he identified his personal course with the course of the Greek people for a better future on the basis of universal values.
He has served as head of Greek diplomacy in political positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1984, when he was sworn in as Deputy Minister. In 1996, along with the resignation of Andreas Papandreou as Prime Minister, he also resigned as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
His highlight and offer was when, a few months before his resignation, he looked to the future with the Interim Agreement between Greece and present-day Northern Macedonia, which came to an end to the deadlock of previous years, laying the foundations for a new era in relations. two countries, but also for the role of Greece in the Balkans.
As President of the Republic he was restrained, balanced and wise. He avoided challenges and as he was deeply aware of the Greek and international balances his speech always had a special weight for everyone.
The strong legacy he handed over to his homeland and the Republic is a point of study and inspiration for future generations. We express our deepest condolences to his wife and daughters. ”
