Sweden deports three Russian diplomats – on charges of espionage

Sweden deported three Russian diplomats whom it accuses of espionage on Tuesday, joining the club of European countries that have taken similar actions in recent days.

“The reason is that they are not following the Vienna Convention and are carrying out illegal intelligence operations,” Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde told reporters, according to Reuters.

France, Belgium and the Netherlands also recently deported Russian diplomats on espionage charges.

The move coincides with anger across the continent over reports of mass graves and revelations about the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Butsa following the withdrawal of Russian troops, in what Moscow has called a “special military operation.” business ”in Ukraine.

“It is clear that war crimes have been committed,” Linde said.

The Kremlin denies any allegations of civilian casualties, such as in Bhutan.
