Sweden’s prime minister has threatened to step down if the opposition votes against the justice minister in a motion of censure against him.
The Moderates, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats said earlier in the day that they would support the Swedish Democrats’ motion of censure against Justice and Home Affairs Minister Morgan Johansson.
The vote in parliament will take place next week.
Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson said in a press conference that she would “certainly” resign, as would her entire government, if Johansson voted against.
“Then there will be a government crisis and Sweden does not need that,” he added.
Sweden and Finland called for NATO membership last month amid security concerns over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Swedish Democrats accuse Johansson of ineffectiveness in fighting crime.
